Hey all, I'm looking for a source of short metal rods.

Hey all, I’m looking for a source of short metal rods. These are not for linear motion so they don’t need to be accurate. Stainless steel or brass. I need 30 rods, 8mm thick, about 150mm long. Any ideas?

Shelf pins?

15cm Shelf pins?

Lol…my metric conversion is a little off…something like that I would buy rod stock and cut it down myself. Then all you would have to choose is the material and that part really dictated the cost. (tool steel for example is about 7usd for 90 cm)

I’m thinking http://onlinemetals.com if you’re willing to buy new. If you’re looking to repurpose stuff that’s locally available, that’s trickier.

McMaster Carr should have them.

In the US or Europe?

Canada, actually.

What continent?

Try AliExpress?

check the home centers, like Home Hardware.

Pull printers and scanners apart…

I’ve used O1 tool steel as El Cheapo linear rods from McMaster in the past, but now you can get pre-cut and chromed ones from Ali Express for a negligible difference in price. With the waste from cutting down standard lengths, it may even turn out to be cheaper.
