My com ports don’t show and I’ve tried everything to make them show
@Sue_Gibson in Device Manager, what does it list when you expand ‘Ports (COM & LPT)’ ?
@Sue_Gibson assuming it lets me post this link, you’ve downloaded this driver? http://pjrc.com/teensy/serial_install.exe
I uninstalled like you said and it still says device not recognized
@Sue_Gibson Did you install the driver from the link above?
yes i already have the driver installed
I uninstalled like you said and it still says device not recognized
have you confirmed on another device that the cable you are using is working correctly and tried another usb port
i dont have another device that this cable would work on
Do you use an Android phone? it uses the same cable…
no I only have Iphones
maybe just purchase another cable given how cheap they are.
Try another USB cable. Also check all connections to the board. The power connectors specifically but all of them. Im not sure of the hardware used in there but if its something like ramps. Disconnect the shield from the arduino and check it works without anything connected if not thats your problem. If it does add the shield no steppers and check add components till you find what’s causing your problem and if it works after you may have had a bad connection sometimes with pc’s i have to remove and reseat the ram chips as they seem to get a slight oxidation on the contacts pulling them out and sticking them back seems to fix it this may be a similar thing.
i am going to borrow another one from someone tomorrow, but i just dont see how its the cable when the computer knows something is plugged in, it just comes up as unknown device
Ive had that with with printers (the paper kind) a few times its an easy enough thing to check as a 1st test.
ya i will find out tomorrow, hopefully that’s it, i haven’t been able to print for 2 weeks.
i got a new cord and it works yay! thanks everyone
Good outcome. We forget what a pounding our cables take.
Great to hear @Sue_Gibson !
@Sue_Gibson sometimes the easiest fix is the hardest to see. That’s what’s makes a community such a great resource for looking at it from a different angle.
