hello, I am new to the community.
I need some help. I have to build a 3D printer but do not know where to start, someone may help me?
Thank you very much
Depends on what you want. The Ultimaker kit just went in the sale, and is a nice printer (warning, I’m biased)
But you can also source all kinds of bits an pieces yourself and build a RepRap from http://reprap.org
There are many kit sellers out there that just sell reprap kits, so that would be an in-between option.
Just to make sure you do not have any illusions, this project will cost you at least $500. Even if you go for the cheapest options.
If you are looking to build your own printer there’s many different DIY printers available, some you can purchase all of the parts as a kit and simply assemble them, others you need to print the parts yourself which requires access to an existing 3D printer. I recently built a RepRap style Delta printer the 3DR - (my build thread if you are interested : http://fabribles.com/community/forum/build-threads/65-deeemms-3dr-delta-build) I had to print the parts myself and source the electronics. The assembly and setup required a bit of prior knowledge. A build like this may not be suitable for everyone but if you like a challenge it is very rewarding. Biggest questions to ask yourself before you start is what do you want to print? and what size? Let these basic questions drive which printer you require. There is a great list of DIY printers over at RepRap, you should be able to find something to suit. Good luck with your build.
+1 for Mendel90 and as @Ashley_Webster points out, stick to the beaten track if you want to have a reliable and we’ll supported printer.
@Brigham_Valdez Nice rhetoric but if you check my feed you’ll find i’m actively developing a machine, and it’s somewhat more adventurous than a Hbot. It’s an amazingly rewarding experience but it’s also a huge time sink and can be very frustrating when things go wrong; because I have that experience, I’m able to advise people who are just getting into this on what they might want to start with and it’s surely not my design (even though it’s awesome) - a lot of people want a printer so they can print stuff, not so they can constantly tinker tune and adjust the machine itself. Mendel90 is without a doubt a better choice for anyone just starting in this game than your machine. If want to carve your path, go ahead but don’t get shitty because people rightly advise newcomers not to follow.
