Has anyone used taulman nylon for extruder gears?

Has anyone used taulman nylon for extruder gears? Ive been having issues with the motorside teeth shearing and crumbling after just a couple weeks of use. I got a couple pounds of “Bridge” and was thinking it would be a good use.

Probably a good use for it but why are your ABS gears failing is a question you should answer. My original Wsdes gear set was worn after a year but not failed.

I agree, They were printed with some cheap chinese filament. My first gear did great for over a year with heavy printing but was printed with really low infill and eventually the gear twisted off the hub. These have done pretty awfully.

Nylon is a very slippery material too… (I think) it’s a little softer than ABS but MUCH tougher - It should be superior to ABS for gears I would think. I’m tossing up whether I print my new gears (I should make some spares) in PLA, ABS or nylon (or, go get some T-Glaze which I found out is very very strong and sounds great for gears)

Kind of agree with @William_Frick here, the real question is why are your ABS gears failing? I have some ABS gears here that have run for over 1000 hours (Printed by @nop_head for a Mendel90 kit). They have a little lithium grease applied to them which may help.

Grease is vital. Without it ABS does not last long at all.

I print the small gears with 95% infill.

I have a roll of cx-glass from coex that I haven’t played with yet to. I was thinking of printing a set of each filament and putting one on my large format and one on my Prusa

I do think there were some alignment issues with the last set I made (lasted 12ish hours? maybe?) Again they were done with sketchy filament, The last thing the printed was a new set of gears with good filament, and theres little bits of the old gear pressed into them from the old ones crumbling.

Really I just have these rolls of these new materials and wanted to try them. Ill report back
