Has anyone else here had an issue with octoprint randomly disconnecting from the printer and becoming unresponsive to the point that the only way to get it running again is to pull the power?
i had it a lot of times and finally i gave up… it happens because of a crappy usb connection . The only way to print is via the file on the sd card of the printer…
It doesnt happen often thou. But if it was due to a crappy connection via USB shouldnt it give a printer disconnected error? I mean itll run fine for a couple of days then randomly stop while im at work which makes it annoying because then the printer is slowly roasting PLA in the hotend to perfection
that is what it did with me… printed fine 5-6 hour prints then on a critical 12 hour print it gives up . it kept happening randomly… it would just freeze mid-way and wont even reconnect… i kind of got fed up of it.
Heck ive done 16 hour prints no problem. Then itll fail on a 2 hour print lol
I do have the original arduino cable that came with my uno. Think thatll work?
i have been down the rabbit hole of bad usb cable with my first prusa i2… back then i even tried a really expensive shielded usb cable but even that was not totally reliable… mostly the issue lies on the controller board . in my case it is a ramps. maybe more expensive boards are more stable.

I have an original MK2S
Happens to me every month or so. Using short USB cable. Like your issue, can’t reconnect unless I try an incorrect port first and after failure, connect to correct port.
Never had a problem with mine disconnecting, but I only use a 18" cable. I don’t think more expensive boards are immune either as I was having strange issues with my smoothieboard when I was using a longer cable.
The pi has built in wifi. Its a pi 3. I do have an USB camera plugged in. The power supply is 5V 2A but ill hunt around for a 3A supply and see if it helps
@David_Sherwood got a link for such a hub?
And would the pi have any issue communicating with the printerband the camera through a hub?
@David_Sherwood ok ill add that to my shopping list. Thanx for the help! So the powered hub and a 3A power supply?
Even with 16 hour prints ive been able to run the pi and the camera no problem. But itll fail randomly with a 2 or 5 hour print. Thou sometimes it becomes unresponsive to any of the plugins i use to check on it yet it still manages to finish the print. Its weird
