Has anyone considered looking into mbed support? The STM32 Nucleo series in particular is super cheap, super powerful and has arduino-compatible pins. I read there is re-work being done to support the Spark Core (yay!) and thought that might be a related effort.

The stm32 is on the list - mbed might be a faster route than spark core if only because it sidestep their cloud based platform.
