Bummed I missed this when it was first mentioned:
Resisting the urge to buy a second larger printer so as to be able to do a one piece print of a base is kind of hard…
In the meanwhile, I’ll have to see if I can work up a “corners-only” version where the corners are printed, and the field is filled in w/ parts cut on a CNC (or tablesaw?)
I started working on a “Corners-only” design for this at:
which fortuitously fits Gridfinity quite nicely:
The BlockSCAD file still needs to have the sides/front/back sorted out as separate parts, and then the lid, but seems promising/workable — though of course, just getting a larger printer and printing in one piece is probably the most sensible thing…
Next up is working out parts and joinery for a CNC-only version…
The plan is to divide the components into portions and orientations which are easily printed w/o supports:
The corners for instance have to be rotated so that the interior opening is flat on the build plate…
(or, maybe it would just be easier to get a large-format 3D printer or do the whole thing on a CNC)
