Grblgru lathe insanity

Trying to import and use dxf for lathe shape, but positioning of 3d shape is a puzzle, and the CURSOR jog controls each produce motion in other diections, including spindle. DXF is in XZ plane. path shown is after repeated operations of Z in one directon follwoed by Z HOME (center button). Impossible to position toolbit.

Not familiar with that exact program but if it is anything like Fusion, You need to predefine your XZ drawing plane to eliminate cursor movement in the “Y” direction which you can’t see because it is at right angles to you but not to your cursor starting position. You also have three sets of defined positions. I’m guessing putting absolute numbers in one of those sets might solve your problem

Please take a look at one of the included DXF examples. There you will see that the required coordinate system must be in the XY plane. You can easily load the examples via the “File / Import DXF” menu item.

the cursor jog paths look to be serious bugs in lathe beta 1.8.

Thank you for sending me back to xy plane; I was misled (or I misenterpreted) some of the AI stuff I was reading. One remaining problem: A narrower section of profile to the LEFT of the main workpiece body, the cutter plunges with the LH edge of the cutter at the edge of the narrower part, rather than the RH edge of the cutter, resulting in the main body being shorter by the cutter width. I can compensate for that by lenthening the main body portion by the cutter width, but it remains as an anomaly. Thanks to all!

Hmm… Please save the issue as a project and share it with me here. Maybe you could also add a screenshot with the issue highlighted.

The screenshot in my original post shows cutter tip path resulting from a few axis jogs, then a pattern of converging paths in response to (0,0,0) button presses (center button on jog cursor tool). Not sure how to save as a project… maybe you can do that / thanks!
