GRBL Workspace users,
If you are looking for a grbl 0.9 compatible shield for your CNC, here is a possible solution I would recommend you. I am using version 3.00 already for nearly 2 years and I am very pleased with it. It works perfectly with Chilipeppr GRBL workspace.

New version 3.51 of the Arduino CNC shield (runs on Arduino Uno) is now available from Protoneer: http://blog.protoneer.co.nz/arduino-cnc-shield/ with a link to eBay store available on this page. This kit contains a PCB + all components and requires soldering.

What I read is new with Version 3.51:

  • added circuitry for End-Stop and Probe signal filtering. This eliminates false triggers and makes it possible use non-shielded cable for end-stops/probes.
  • bigger solder pads making it easier to assemble
  • probe pin labels have been updated to make it easier to install a probe

Very good shield. I use this for my second controller. But i use a china clone ~$3

What’s the 4th slot for if Grbl only supports XYZ?

Double y axis or axis a.

Does Grbl support A axis?

Yes, u can use the spindlecontrol pins map to axis a. Need a recompile or just a config change.

Hi @jlauer , the 4th axis can be used to clone any of X/Y/Z axis e.g. when the machine has two motors installed for an axis (Y axis most likely).

Indeed, although on my ox I have the dual y motors on a splitter to the single driver.
