Graphene continues to be a very promising material, furthering the applications of 3D Printing. Anyone agree or disagree?

“Graphene technology is expected to change many industrial sectors such as electronics, energy, health and manufacturing. Canadian junior graphite mining company Lomiko Metals (V.LMR) and New York, USA based high-tech start-up Graphene Labs are working together to bring graphene materials closer to commercial production”.

Graphene is supposedly supposed to change everything…but it hasn’t changed anything yet, so, hype.

Agree, hype and some tantalizing potential so far.

I think the understanding what graphene is is important. Graphene is a carbon structure, it is a 1 atom thick carbon lattice, it does have some conductive properties, and some restive properties. it can be made at home using some interesting fabrication techniques, it can be used in electronics to make capacitors with some pros and cons. in the capacitor application the structure used to make it reliable is much larger then the graphene itself, thereby limiting its advanges in real world applications.

“graphene Nano-particles” are nothing new, they are just more expensive flakes of carbon. from a 3d printing stand point i don’t think it is any more practical then graphite (as we will use not planar or 1 atom thick)
