Yeah, I’ve been meaning to do a new version that incorporates some of the other design changes and works on the Mk8.

Why does Makerbot stay with such a flawed design, the upgrade would be simple.

That and the varying diameter of filament is a pain too!

I’ve never understood why people buy shitty filament after spending so much time and money on a printer. Until I did @Whosa_whatsis mod I simple bent the metal washers to create a spring. It’s funny, for copying the UP! extruder the MK7/8 sure doesn’t work as well. Hell even the UP! folks upgraded their extruder between models. Makerbot is just a magazine cover model now. “experimental” Pfttt. Funny. Good article, another reason to avoid these overpriced PITA’s.

BTW, the mod also works with the QU-BD hot end, which is a derivative of the MBI one that is a much better value. This mod plus a drive gear replacement makes their extruder a really nice one for less than 1/4 of the over-inflated price MBI charges.
