That’s not a bad idea at all.

I haven’t really had the same bad experience as the author with my MK6 drive gear but then he is also speaking of much higher speeds than what I print at.

I do feel it’s a bit sensitive to finding the right idler pressure and I suffer more from motor skipping when ramping up the speed than filament stripping, but that’s probably because the direct drive can’t produce enough torque as a geared extruder.
