For those who use Cura as their slicer,

For those who use Cura as their slicer, how do you guys handle support material? The slicer added support material in areas with the small holes where you can slide the nuts in, which is fine and all if not for the fact that those are a pain to remove after printing.

Is there an option to only generate supports from the ground up? Perhaps increase the angle where supports are generated, bumping it up for overhangs of 60 degrees or more rather than the traditional 45 degrees.

I believe what John is referring to is the option “touching build plate”, which only adds support from the build plate, not above parts of the model. Cura is ok for simple supports, but I’ve had better luck using MeshMixer to add custom supports and then using Cura for slicing.
