First carbon fiber 3d printer! http://diy3dprinting.blogspot.com/2014/01/mark-one-first-carbon-fiber-3d-printer.html
I sincerely believe there is little difference between this machine and many others. In my eyes this is purely a buzz word scam. Nozzle size is probably the only thing I can imagine you would need to change in order to print thermoplastic composites.
The thing that really irks me is that it is a misnomer to refer to printing carbon fiber composites simply as such. Thermoplastic composites are by no means equivalent to the continuous fiber thermoset composites the public thinks of when the hear “carbon fiber.”
When the last carbon fiber filament came out, their data showed that while the stiffness of their filled PLA was improved, the flexural strength decreased. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1375236253/proto-pasta-gourmet-food-for-your-3d-printer
All that said there is a lot of post-processing work involved with making tooling out of 3D prints.
