If anyone would like to pop over to http://find3Dthings.com and give it a try - it’s a meta-search engine currently covering three sites (thingiverse, ponoko and grabcad).
It’s in beta so let me know what you think.
Looks clean, but I’m not enamoured with the page in a popup approach, why not link directly to the site?
The number of models per site seem quite low too - have only a small number been indexed because it’s in beta?
The answer is yes … but it’s going up all the time, it regularly scans the sites to see what’s new…
The images seem cropped for some reason.
For example, filter on keyword “bike”.
Then see “Bmx bike - sprocket”, which has a picture of a sprocket that is cropped top and bottom, but the file is not cropped: http://grabcad.com/library/bmx-bike-sprocket/files/Renderings/BMX%20-%20Sprocket.png
I see what you’re saying. What the system does is grab the image from the main picture (http://grabcad.com/library/bmx-bike-sprocket ) rather than try to find the original upload and, as you can see, that is cropped as well.
