Filament spool weight/accuracy

Has anyone been tracking this?

I’ve finally finished one roll (an ancient roll of AmazonBasics PLA) and am about to finish two more (Elegoo PLA and PETG), and I’ve been tracking how much prints weigh, and I seem to be falling short…

There seems to have been some old discussions on this, and some early efforts to weigh empty spools, but that seems to have fallen by the wayside…

My suspicion is that bargain filament is often short on weight, making it less of a bargain.

The most compleat/up-to-date compilation seems to be:

Does anyone know of a brand which includes the weight of the empty spool in their product listing? (or printed on the side of the spool?)

Trying to avoid going down the rabbit hole of building a spool rewinder, or some sort of active weighing system…

I am about to finish a spool of Jayo filament from eBay. I will let you know the weight.
Is it an idea to pin a summary of everyone’s contributions at the beginning of this topic?

That, or provide the information to the list maintained by @Scuk_253012 on Printables?

Just for datapoints/discussion…

AmazonBasics spools are supposed to be ~190 – 234 g — when I weighed my empty it was 233g.

Elegoo plastic spools should be ~111 – 116 g — the black PLA spool I’m just finishing up was ~1,115 g when first weighed incl. the spool, while a new grey PETG spool was 1,126 g before drying, 1,124 after an initial pass incl. the spool.

EDIT: the spool of Elegoo black PLA which I just finished weighed 113 grams.

I think my initial surmise was based on mis-reading what I had written down — obviously, the solution is to track all this in a spreadsheet…
