Can you etch sandstone? I have awesome sandstone coaster that we love. I was wondering if I can etch them.
Yes they can but be aware that your mileage will vary. At certain engraving parameters you will actually melt the sand and get a nice glass finish but it might not be consistent. You might get a white type of engraving too. You need to play with the settings and material to get something you will like. Unfortunately every one might be different. You can always mask the coaster and paint what you etch off like a stencil.

Interesting. I wish I had some sandstone laying around that wasn’t the coasters. I will see if I can find some.
