Dog Safety Shoes

Good day.

Knowledgeable Knewbie here.. Simple :: Dog Safety Shoes.

Yes please let’s talk about real safety shoes for working dogs. NOBODY sells real dog safety shoes. I see for sale, and have purchased, semi-real safety shoes for my service dog.

Why? We work rural industrial & commercial ISP installs and repairs. Often finding ourselves working in Snow Making Hill Pump Rooms, Utility Rooms & Closets; We need real safety oriented gear for my boy. Available products are yes ‘tough’ but tough and safe are different.

We have qualifications:

Ideally boots would go up to du-claw.

Boots would mimic esthetic of Silicone Booties

No leather, or any other materials that are not at least hydrophobic. Materials can get wet but must not need to ‘dry’.

I am leaning towards 98A TPU for the sole and body. (sole must be soft for traction on polished commercial floors)

I am also interested in a Shank Boot (underfoot plate). My instinct is printed nylon. Alternatively reused washer-bottle cut to size and warmed in an oven as a between layer insert.

Finally I would prefer a 2 strap per boot.

≠=≠= QUESTIONS:

Can you print on top of a cooled print that has ‘finished’ to unify a new print. In context, I imagine the sole to be of an accent colour, but would have a ‘bump’ by the toe as most sneakers do. In theory I would like to build the show on top of that sole, with the nylon sandwiched between the TPU sole and the rest of the boot body. (Picture for reference of bump on toe)

A printer that can print multiple materials at the same time would be able to print the different materials in a single print session. I have a Prusa XL that can do it. But there are other printers that can do multi-material prints as well.

There is quite a lot of info about 3d printing shoes for humans available; designs and discussions. A lot of the issues and challenges will be similar.

Have you considered a ‘composite’ shoe; a 3d printed sole, maybe photogrammed into a model from a cast of your companions paws. But then a leather upper, and straps etc. Well maintained and oiled leather is the equal of anything you can realistically 3D print for this sort of application.
