Does anyone here recommend Ubuntu over Angstrom for the BeagleBone Black?

More importantly, what does Angstrom provide that I would be missing in Ubuntu? (I know Ubuntu somewhat, but Angstrom not at all beyond the last few days.)

I just got my BBB but I have 10 years experience with the various distros of linux. I’d recommend Debian. Ubuntu is built on Debian.

All distros seem shiny until you go thru major updates like Ubuntu LTS (long term server) changes. Debian is very sane about updates and security patches. Ubuntu has removed packages from LTS - a no no. I will never use Ubuntu again for any equipment that is going to be in use for more than 2 years.

Angstrom is pretty nice distro. Since you already have it on your BBB, you can play with it a while before you decide.
