Does anyone have experience with ordering from Folger Technologies? they seem to be the only reasonably priced supplier of 5mm threaded rods and other printer vitamins.
Would you want to order from someone who’s selling a “1.75mm All Metal J-Head” (totally not an E3D clone)? http://shop.folgertechnologies.com/175mm-All-Metal-J-Head-Bowden-Style-000357.htm
…a missing terms and conditions page, no contact address and a quickly thrown-together site from GoDaddy?
Plus, many of their prices are suspiciously low. Be careful.
Look for Acklands Grainger for threaded Rod or fastenal
@Bernie_Koestlmaier_C I checked out Fastenal, and they’d have a decent price, but they only really carry the 5 mm rod and nuts that I’d need for converting my Prusa i2 into an i3. They don’t carry belts, or pulleys in a form for use with a printer.
By the way, those “5mm” rods and nuts are called M5. Don’t confuse it with the BMW, and it should give you somewhat better search results.
In the US many retailers and distributors, particularly on the local or regional level will refer to metric hardware by the size in mm and not the M designation. For example MSC calls it 5mm rod while McMaster uses the standard M5 nominclature.
I see the size in mm from those that don’t necessarily deal in metric. The vendors that do specialize use the M nominclature. If you are looking or calling around locally in the US chances are unless they have a wide assortment of metric hardware they’ll refer to it in the mm size and may not know what it is if you refer to it with an M designation.
@Thomas_Sanladerer I have tried it with both 5mm and M5 and I never seem to find any stores that sell it for a reasonable price. You would think that living in a metric country (Canada) it would be a lot easier to find metric hardware.
Every site that I’ve been to is not designed for, or friendly to hobbyists. Misumi is the only one that comes close, and they’re too pricey for my budget.
I ordered from them. Based out of NH and talked to a few people who knows the owner. I ordered a ramps board and it has ultimachine printed on it. Prices compare to robotdigg which is nice I guess.
I actually meant to update this a while back, I’ve made two purchases from Folgertech, they have some of the best prices for me. (I’m sure I could get hardware and whatnot for cheaper if I had the time or the means of transportation) They’ve been reliable with both purchases, the shippinbg has been fast and the assorted metric rods I’ve bought have been packed properly for long distance transit.
