Does anyone have any experience with the Form 1 3d printer (kickstarter orders should’ve shipped early 2013 according to their website)? The 25 micron layer height seems fantastic but the resin cost is far greater than PLA/ABS plastics. I’m also interested if anyone can give any feedback on the strength of the stereolithographic prints in relation to extruded plastic prints.
Units are only just now shipping. I dont expect mine for at least another month or so and I was in the second tier so it might be a little while before you start seeing results. Bunnie had posted a tear down of one though…
OpenSL from Pryntech will be shipping to the small group of backers in the next week or so. The hardware is about half the cost of a Form 1 and resin is ~$50/L. However, the system is not turnkey and will be very much a community development. Currently the hardware runs on a modified version of Marlin, modified Repetier, and a special version of Slic3r.
