Does anyone have any experience with removing an aluminium build plate and replacing it

Does anyone have any experience with removing an aluminium build plate and replacing it with glass. Apart from making sure it’s tempered glass I cant see there being any problems but as I’m new to this i thought i’d get the opinion of someone in the know.

Thanks

Do you need to remove the aluminum plate? You can clip the glass on top with binder clips? I’ve used 1/8" mirror glass from a glass shop for a lot of custom glass beds. I think the mirrored glass holds up better to heat cycles, could be wishful thinking though.

I’ve switched from Al to glass to acrylic to MDF/canvas and back to glass with no outstanding problems. Depending on how the build plate is secured, of course you may have hurdles (drilling glass is hard, threading even more so), but those should be obvious from the outset.

Well I was thinking of removing the aluminium plate and using clips to secure it. I dont need to remove it but was worried that heating both the glass and the aluminium would take forever and wouldn’t give incorrect temp readings, plus i think it would look better.

It doesn’t need to be tempered glass

Any float glass does the job
