Dismounted my E3D-V6 for its yearly maintenance today. Made some Pics of the conditions after one year heavy beginner-abuse I find the pics of the used nozzle at most interesting.
Anyone knows a lazy way to clean the debris off of the heater and nozzle?
@Nathan_Walkner by mek you mean methyl-ethyl-ketone ?
I put the nozzle in a furnace and burn everything off. You can also do it with a torch.
That looks familiar I have a small brass wire brush next to my printer and I give mine a scrub every now and again. The nozzles themselves are super cheap so I just replace those.
Heat, baby, heat I use my little proxxon MicroFlam. You could use any heat source of course but i would go with a flame that is hot enough to quickly heat the nozzle. I always put in on a peace of 1,5mm steel wire upside down. This way the melting plastics can run out and after that everything else turns into smut quickly.
You should of course be careful and have a good underground so dropping hot plastics doesn’t damage anything.
How many hours you print before you clean nozzle??
Me I need clean nozzle every 700-800 hours
@Evan_Nguyen I use a little lighter-torch thing to clean out mine, put it on something thats the right diameter and press down and everything shoots out the nozzle!
i clean my nozzle when it starts being crappy (usually if i let it sit for a while), I have taken to jamming a sewing needle up the nozzle when its up to tem and that seems to rebore the nozzle and gets my flow back
How filthy does it have to be before you start getting failures? I’m also wondering the residue gets so far from the nozzle. I hope that’s not vapor deposition.
how filthy? until it only puts out little curls of filament instead of a straight dangler, sometimes when the heads traversing the print it will go thru some jizz and pick it up, my nozzle looks just as dirty, I dunno, just gets that way…
@Dale_Dunn I had no failures with this hotend. Never, the whole year. It was my first year with 3D-printing, so the hotend was used like a scapegoat I just disassembled it because I unmounted it anyways…
I have been using the Prometheus 2. Couple months back got my second printer that has the hexagon and I will be switching it out to the Prometheus 2. Used Prometheus 1 as well. Very good all metal hotend.
