Delrin bushings

Every once in a while I bump into something that just flat amazes me. Delrin is an AWESOME plastic for machining and is very VERY slippery. I just ran across this how-to for using an ACME leadscrew and making a delrin bushing to mate with it.

I dunno bout you, but the Delrin cut-off bin at our local plastic supplier sells the stuff four about $.35 a lb.

So, does this excite you? It makes me kinda giddy.

For leadscrew nuts this is great. I wonder how it would work as a linear bushing.

I can give it a shot…need to order the ingentis bearings and can order the bushings seperately if delrin doesn’t work out.

Could end up making this thing an upside-down mendel with two acme leadscrews for the Z-axis
