Crude touch probe to use on non metal surfaces (i.e. Wood). The copper pin goes into the base far enough to make contact with the steel pin. Believe it or not but it’s fairly accurate - at least for wood surfaces. I used a .5" dowel rod for the main housing. I’m sure there are much better ways of doing this.

I like it… how do you mount it? To use the auto-level… doesn’t it need to be in the same position as the bit? If not, how do you account for the off-set?

I mounted it directly in the spindle. You do need to take into consideration the offset you mentioned with the bit.

You could just do a G92 offset afterwards to get a new XY position setup and then you’d be fine to run your job if you put the probe in a different position than the spindle.
