Purchased a used KH7050 last week and I’m trying to make sure everything is correct. The previous owners decided to take it upon themself to rewire the main switch. I believe certain other wires go to other switches or functions. The internal light doesn’t work. The red laser light is not turning on. They could be burned out, but it seems that things aren’t wired correctly. The fan on the side of the power supply is wired to something, but the other end just has a wire nut on it; fan not blowing. Trying to find a detailed wiring diagram so I can track down where the wires are supposed to go. I’m looking for the main power switch part number, cause he’s replaced it with a toggle switch that obviously not the original switch. Other pictures I’ve seen are a round switch. Also looking for the closing door switches part numbers or suggestions on what to replace them with. There are multiple switches that do not have wires hooked to them. But they’re on the machine so they must have some type of function. I figure if I could start with a wire diagram, I could then pose more intelligent questions. Or be able to fix it myself.
Not sure how much help this will be, but I found what appears to be the manual for this machine:
It looks like the machine has some form of RDWorks/RUIDA controller and 2 stepper motor controllers along with the typical 24V power supply and laser power supply(LPS). If it was mine, I would have started by getting cooling water flowing through the tube(required before ANY firing of the laser tube ) and then I would see that mirrors are reasonably aimed and then press the TEST button on the LPS to see if the CO2 tube is any good and if the LPS is working. Those are considered consumables and you will want to know how much more $$ you’ll need to spend to get a working machine.
Then, I’d make sure there’s 24VDC on the regular power supply and that the Ruida controller display powers up. From there, it would be checking to see the previous owner didn’t rewire the stepper motors(unlikely) and last it’s a matter of looking at the low voltage safety wiring from the controller and seeing if the water flow sensor is working, door/lid switch is functional, etc.
It’s not an easy task if you’re not familiar with how these lasers work, the various safety wiring options( ie are they wired in series or are there multiple input on the controller ), etc. And I’d first clean up the equipment bay.
-
Yes, it did come with the water chiller. Yes, it’s installed.
-
Yes, it did Not come with an air compressor, but I have added one since this photo and it is installed.
-
The red laser light currently does not turn on.
-
The switch for standby does not have anything hooked up to it.
-
The red laser switch has one wire, not two, so it doesn’t turn on.
-
The open cover for protection switch does work as an override.
-
Wires are attached for instance down towards the power supply where it plugs into the wall; seems to be correct but
-
The main on off switch has wires that I believe go somewhere else hooked up to it so it will turn on
-
The unit and the laser will work but some of the additional minor functions do not
-
The internal light does not work because I have found that it is not wired to the switch which is on the panel where the main power switch is. I believe it’s not correctly wired.
-
The exhaust fan on the side that has the CPU and stuff that fan doesn’t work either; I believe it’s wired incorrectly.
I have a diode laser; I’ve been using it for a while. I understand how it works it’s just the wiring seems to be funky on the CO2 laser.
I have been doing a lot of research on YT videos and everything else to get myself familiarized with this unit. I do not have an exhaust fan currently, but I do have a small fan to try and help pull out the smoke that it produces when it is on. But that doesn’t do me any good for the other power issues and switches that are not wired correctly. That’s why I was looking for some type of wiring diagram to fix the things that are not working. I have tried printing something. I have connected RDworks to it and I have sent a file to the laser printer. I know it’ll take a while to dial in the speed and everything.
I am in the process of cleaning the machine since it is extremely dirty. I’m just trying to work my way through it.
I’ve made sure that the laser tube is in correctly. I’ve set the mirrors via the 3 or 4 diff YT videos I’ve watched to make sure that it is in the center marking and it is hitting the mirrors in the center and going down the laser lens to the project. I have not done the Ramp test yet because I was concerned about the wiring once I opened that side of the machine. I understand it’s an expensive machine, so I’m not wanting to mess anything up. That is the reason I keep going through different YouTube videos and finding as much information as possible. Some of the cabinet doors don’t open because the latch is broken. I’ve opened them and got in there on most of them. The one that concerned me the most was the power switch, and everything in this control unit. I haven’t got in there yet to do a fine cleaning with a paintbrush on this side cuz once I realized that it wasn’t wired correctly, I was looking for that before I started cleaning too much. Making sure I didn’t ruin something. Like for instance, I have a wire that’s sitting here that’s not plugged into anything, and it looks like it should be plugged into something.
These are the things that I have noticed since I sent the original post.
Thank you for taking the time to respond and an interest in helping me out.
