Not sure why I’m getting an uneven print (as you can see in the picture) could it be the filament ?
I’m printing using ABS, print temp is @ 240C, bed temp 110C, print speed 50 mm/s.
Thanks.

Moisture in your filamentthat makes little bubbles/bumps as it passes through the hotend?

Looks like you’re printing on PEI correct? I would say it’s probably moisture in the filament. It’ll generally dry out if you put it in the oven for a little bit. You might want to drop your first layer down a little more as well. Looks like you’re getting poor layer adhesion that way as well.

@Griffin_Paquette I think your right, probably moisture in the filament. I’m not sure what PEI is, but i’m using a Lulzbot Taz6, glass bed. (if that helps)

Yup PEI is the material on top of the glass. It’s what makes the prints stick down. Bake the filament.

I had exactly the same problem with one particular spool of black ABS, other colors were ok even for the same brand. It was most likely a moisture in combination with this particular pigment, because after having it in a dry/hot garage (california) for some time, it stopped doing that…

Along the lines of the moisture issue, when I experienced it I would occasionally see a brief puff of steam. Other people have said you may hear a pop (I didn’t). I now keep mine in sealable storage bins with desiccant containers.

I do the same @Tim_Sills . It works fine for my PLA but I took my nylon out to print with the other day and it was literally like a printer steam bath. Nylon absorbs moisture more but silica packs only do so much. Do you vacuum seal your spools?

@Griffin_Paquette , I use the 60qt sealable containers from ziploc and have the desiccant containers from Home Depot within them. I live in SoCal as well, which is pretty low humidity. I have mostly PLA and 1 spool of nylon & ABS. The PLA is so dry that it’s actually kind of brittle. I’ve noticed sometimes when pulling out a spool I haven’t touched in a while…the pig tail I’ve fed through a hole in the spool will break as I bend it. I have 2 yr old filament I’m printing with right now that’s bone dry.

@Tim_Sills That’s exactly what I’ve notice. When its printing I’m hearing a pop sound every now and then. I’m 99% sure whatever’s causing it to pop is also causing my printing quality issue. Cheers.
