Brook Drumm  I never see any Printrbots at the factory or otherwise being used

@Brook_Drumm I never see any Printrbots at the factory or otherwise being used by you that have a fan cooling the extruder motor. My experience was that after moving from the Wade’s extruder to the direct drive extruder (Simple beta to v2) the PLA filament would always buckle between the drive motor and the hot end, and nothing I tried prevented that, except cooling the E motor.

Do you have any tricks that avoid this issue, or is it my filament, or…?

I’ve been tempted but always hated the idea. No fan is one differentiator between the Ubis and other hotends. What started as a small effort to keep cost down and keep things simple has turned into a bit of a religion. Finding the balance between hotend temp, printing speed, extruder spring tension and pot settings is the magic key. I have run across a few motors that struggled no matter what. I know its possible, since we ship hundreds a month without issue.

the E motor must be getting pretty damn hot to soften filament going past it…

@Jonathan_se5a_Sorens Indeed. PLA 1.75 is obviously the most vulnerable out of the four common type/size combos to this, so that helps.
