Blowing up capacitors for the visuals

Rather nice SlowMoGuys video has popped up.

I’m probably gonna pay a bit more respect to keeping Electrolytics well inside their voltage rating from now on…

I recently swapped in a 72V GE controller for a GEM NEV and upon first attempt to use it the lid blew off the controller. And it’s thick sprung aluminium with a locking lip along the length. No smell of “magic smoke” and on further evaluation, one capacitor blew it’s lid. I’m running 84V of lithium batteries in this so it should have been able to handle it. But there’s lots of gas generated from a blowing capacitor.
