Artillery Sidewinder X2 Cleanup Need some help

Hello everyone,

Working on a new to me X2 that looks to have suffered a pretty decent fall while owned by the previous owner.

I already have an X2 and a upgraded X1. Not to mention a small 3D farm of other printers. This printer came up from a friend who upgraded and I originally bought it for parts (very reasonable).

I have disassembled/reassembled the printer down to begin the clean up. So far I have corrected a decently dented corner (looks great now) and have tested the stepper motors(swappin cables), hot bed, limit switches, and what I can currently test on the hot end/extruder at this point.

In the mix of parts known bad are the Z axis PCB, Z ABL Sensor (pin is missing), and the X axis PCB. The Z PCB has a loosen 30 pin base connector to the point you can actual rock it and see about a third of the pins separate from the board. I assume this all happened during the fall.

The X Axis PCB Cable clamp appears to be broken. This damage probably can be assumed to have occured during the last owner trying to troubleshoot things and being rough with the clamp - today it wont clamp tightly now.

Another damaged part, which today is my primary concern, is the main display. I have included some pics of the situation. The display still works but the outer screen cover was punctured and appears to have been snagged. Then to make things worse it appears something pulled the puncture across. Again this screen still works (touch screen included) and I will probably leave it in place as is till the other above parts come in (later next week or early the week after). I can then with these new parts test the rest of the printer further. Hopefully get a print out of it at that point and then try to correct/replace the screen.

I have already pulled the screen out of the printer and got the bezel separated to get a look at the situation better. The images included are after I reassembled things back together again. I will say the outer plastic protective cover appears to be well attached to the display. I was originally hoping it would fall or come off easily.

I reached out to Artillery 3D about the screen situation to see if they have any suggestion (besides a display replacement).

I also requested availability of the M1 Pro S1 as I am considering adding it also to my print farm.

I have heard nothing (about 3 days now) when there online site says to expect a response in 24 hours.

I am looking to find out more about the design of the screen. Is that outer plastic just a cover or is it somehow part of a digitizer? If its just a cover has anyone replaced that outer plastic cover with another cover (another screen protector). If its a digitizer is it replaceable (like a tablet)? If a screen replacement is the only option has anyone had any luck with the AliExpress units or should I look elsewhere?

Thanks everyone!

Chris

All,

I usually like to do a followup on my forum requests as they may be useful for someone in the future.

Today the 3D Printer in question is printing as it should and is consistent with my purchased new Sidewinder X2 I bought a number of years ago.

I ended up replacing the Screen as I was able to get it for a little over 30 dollars on AliExpress.

I did replace the X Axis board (bad cable hold down broken) and the Z axis board. The Z Axis board clearly had suffered some serious abuse once I got it out of the printer. The abuse cracked many of the solder joints to the point the ribbon connector moved slightly to the point you could see the separation of the pins without much effort.

After I got the boards replaced I did about a week of solid printing using Pronterface. As this printer may end being mostly used with a USB drive I was recently surprised to find out that it would refuse to print with the USB drive. It would see the files on the USB drive. I could select the files, it would proceed to print but the printer would never kick on the heaters and the print would stall.

I ended up doing a GCode M115 command on my other stock Sidewinder X2 and this printer and compared the results. The results concluded that someone had updated the Marlin install (on this printer) and that the configuration was far from stock. I updated the firmware using the latest Artillery X2 Stock firmware found on the website. In the end everything works as it should and I ended up printing close to another week on it before moving it to my office.

Thanks for attention on the matter,

Chris
