I just did a scan using 123d catch. It needed a fair bit of clean up.

I used to use 123D Catch but not since I bought a Kinect. Much better scans and uses native 3D Builder.

@Adam_Steinmark please let me know where I can get more info on scanning with the kinect

@Bruce I mean the guide I used to get started uses a program called Skanect but it’s not free to export scans at full quality and the standard quality export is really horrible and low poly. All you need is an Xbox One Kinect and the USB adapter for Windows, that and 3D Builder which comes natively with Windows 10. If you don’t have a computer with Windows 10 (I highly recommend a laptop due to the necessity to be mobile) you’ll need to purchase scanning software. There’s two main options, Skanect and Reconstruct Me, but I personally prefer Skanect. It’s easier and has more features such as choosing scan size and it also works with the Asus Xtion. I would also recommend printing a grip for your Kinect but all the models on Thingiverse kind of suck and the model I’m currently using has been removed. I’ll try to make a new one but I probably won’t be able to get to it for at least a week or two. Feel free to message me on Hangouts if you have any more questions or if you run into problems.

Cool how is it to scan parts to import into cad?

Well you can only export STL, PMY, and 3MF so it really only recognizes surfaces not features. So not that great for importing into a CAD program.

@Adam_Steinmark thanks much can’t wait to get started I’ll let you know how it works out

Why is that a problem??? Your really think this is an issue??

I mean it’s not that big of a deal but it’s like you posted this to your profile then added it to the group. If you post it directly to the group it also shows up on your profile and it’s less steps for you
