Anyone did some testing around fishing line to replace belts?, i know that its already proven and its being used in several printers, my question is about the minimum load rating that the fishing line must have. I have a new roll of spectra, but i think that it 0.5 lb, its reaaaaaally thin, im not sure if it will support the load that is generated when it must change direction.
Spectra line goes up to 150lb. We are just now putting together a Kossel printer with a 65lb line.
so, my 1lb line (not 0.5 as i mentioned) is way below. I might try it anyways and see if it snaps.
My plan is to buil a tantillus or a rockstock (or both) with spectra.
100 yards of 65lb line is around $7 on ebay. Don’t waste your time with the 1lb line. (it probably wont snap, but it will stretch - which is worse)
I live far away (Argentina), down here that roll might be around 30-40 usd, is not that cheap, but it wont ruin me, so i will buy a new roll and give back the thin roll to my dad (i stoled it from his fishing box, dont tell him!)
