@Alex_Lee what’s the biggest working Talos out there?

@Ariel_Yahni_UniKpty I use these motors (http://www.robotdigg.com/product/39/Threaded-Rod-Nema17-Stepper-w/-460mm-Tr8*12-Acme-Leadscrew)

They’re 460mm which translates into about 350mm print height. You can probably try going higher if you can find a longer leadscrew and matching it with longer 2020’s for the side extrusions.

We have sets available at http://3dsupplysource.com/Talos but that set is missing the Y plate (which I can cut for you at material cost $20 + shipping).

@Alex_Lee would a leadscrew and a coupler be out of the question? I need 18" tall.

Also I need a 12x12 surface. I know that the profiles will determine all this but since this is a bigger scale I wanted to know of anyone has one working at this sizes.

@Ariel_Yahni_UniKpty I’ve heard people complain about getting problems with z-wobble and binding, but I’ve never used couplers myself to be honest. But I’ve also seen people use them and they had really good prints. 18" is pretty tall!

Yeah trying to get someone out of buying a MakerBot Z18

@Ariel_Yahni_UniKpty I have a machine that was larger than that 12x14x12. I had plans to convert it into a light milling machine with a 400w spindle, took it apart months ago, and the poor thing’s been that way since then.

Could you provide alum heated bed for a 12x12

For something that size, I’d recommend using a 110V silicone heater with an SSR. And I can cut the plate to size for you, I’ll have to calculate the cost on the material.

OK thanks i will look a the BOM and come back to you

He’s alive!

@raykholo LOL

Did I bring you back from the dead???

@Ariel_Yahni_UniKpty Yes, now I have to deal with the living again… ugh… LOL. Actually, I’ve been a bit busy with work, and I just finish my search for a new one (literally just got off the phone with headhunter). Haven’t been around my machines much or around G+.

Here’s the big machine btw: https://www.dropbox.com/s/z5avi200n4l891u/2017-01-31%2014.06.07.jpg?dl=0

Here is one of my links for a 500 mm TR82 stepper
http://www.robotdigg.com/product/227/500mm-Tr8
8-Lead-Screw-Threaded-Nema17-Stepper
It comes out to just under 20" on the shaft.
I’ve had good results from RobotDigg as a supplier for odd parts.

@Alex_Lee Good Luck on getting re-employed, I got retired ;-}

@William_Eades I hope one day I’ll be able to retire too! :smiley:

I saw on Ali a 700mm ballscrew (1506 I believe) for around $40.
For those heights (well above 500 anyways) I think I’d want a ballscrew constrained on both ends.
I’d look at the hercelien Z stage and see if some concepts can be adapted over.
