After seeing some E3D issues that I thought could be based on the cooling

After seeing some E3D issues that I thought could be based on the cooling beeing not geed enough in my setup i thought before i completely redesign my carriage I will try some more “force” in cooling. The easiest way would be to change from a 40x40x10 that i used first (before seeing that even the orignal 30x03x15 isn’t enough) to a 40x40x20 fan.

Here’s some pics from the first test print. Looks like some decent result - i will continue to test and redesign my carriage after that. Looks like it’s indeed a cooling issue.

this solution doesn’t work forever of course as it steals 10mm of x and y build volume

Like I said the issue is not on the E3D end but on my construction of cooling. See the linked post.

And yes, genuine E3D.

I was going to use a fan this thick on Walter’s carriage but found that it limited printable area so I opted for a thinner (louder) fan. Do you see the same?

yeah - i already wrote above that it steals 10mm of each x and y so it won’t be my permanent solution probably but for now it works very well in terms of cooling.

I still have to design a completely new carriage with better air transmission in the back of the hotend to be able to use some other fan but for now it does it’s job and I don’t care so much for that 10mm for 99% of my prints. I still have 28x28x30cm left to print.

@Sean_B which louder fan did you use? can you post an exact model number? I found it’s hard to get good 24V/40mm fans overall. Most of them are just not powerful at all - especially all the ones from China - the pretend to have 8 or more cfm but i don’t believe any of the words when I compare them to the ~4cfm 30/15 fan from E3D.

@Helmi Fan is cheap Chinese 24V from Robotdigg, it is probably the loudest thing on my printer. You’re right hough, 24V fans this size are not common. I almost went with a USA fan, but was cutting corners to save money. DC Fan Archives - Sunon

@shauki you’re right - this print isn’t perfect but that’s not what it was meant for. It was printed way too fast and aggressive but it was only meant to look for the extrusion bug. Regarding Z i still do have to investigate. My guess is that the magnets only hotend fixation doesn’t work very well and i need to try another fix on the next design. As I will need to completely redesign I will keep that in mind and see if it’s enough to make it better.

@Sean_B the fan I have mounted now is a Sunon and i’m quite glad with it. I only paid ardoun 7€ (~8$) for it at a german online shop which isn’t really known for cheap prices.
