A question relating to support material density.

A question relating to support material density. Am I right in thinking that, for a given layer height, the flow-rate defines the extruded line width?

I generally print at a line width of 0.5mm and currently set my support flow rate at 0.82 which, I calculate, will give a 0.41mm line width. Can I reduce this factor further for my 0.4mm nozzle?

Or am I completely off-track with how flow-rate affects line width here?

From a novice: Sounds right. I think you’d have trouble with a line width smaller than slightly above your nozzle diameter. Just my educated guess.
