3D printing, How it may effect our future life style?

I’ve not been involved in any 3D printing. But i do work in manufacturing, and wonder if, or how, this will change the industry i work in over the coming years? At the moment it seems a bit of a slow production process, and maybe the type of materials are a bit restricted. But… how long will this last? Will 3D printers do for manufacturing what online retail and digital media has done to the high street?
